Thank you Disney, for telling our story. A very believable political situation. To watch the re-enactment of this incredible rescue through such terrible conditions leaves me in awe of the bravery of the coastguard.
Fantastic film. One half sinks but the other remains though it is in great danger. I bought this because Chris Pine was in it. "You'll find yourself wanting to "Hold On" in The Finest Hours.A heroic action-thriller, “The Finest Hours” is the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. The Finest Hours is based on a true story about a man named Bernie(played by Chris Pine)who sets off on a journey to save the 32 oil tankers who were left stranded on their boat on a very stormy night including Bernie's friend played by Casey Affleck. On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern. A winner in my book and comes highly recommended, it's from the same stable as the perfect storm, but this one wins through. From Walt Disney Pictures comes “The Finest Hours,” the unforgettable story of the Coast Guard’s courageous mission, which is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars: Chris Pine; Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominee Casey Affleck; Ben Foster; Holliday Grainger; John Ortiz; and Eric Bana. This movie is a film about the courage of seemingly ordinary people under great stress, and is faithful to the spirit of the rescue and the traditions of valor that run deep in the US Coast Guard. Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Eric Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Semper Paratus! This film had me on the edge of my seat once it had got going. Also starring Cinderella's Holliday Granger and Eric Bana I thought this film was brilliant. All but one of the men get on this small boat - it is surprising that it does not sink under the sheer weight. I had high hopes for this movie adaptation of the book, and have to say that Disney did not disappoint. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. This story started too slow and just didn't grab me. We had newer and better boats than the old 36's. My Dad stayed awake throughout, so it must be good! But the dedication and courage required to risk dyeing so "That Others May Live" was well portrayed. Video availability outside of United States varies.
The film adds a bit of love interest, but is sympathetically played by the cast amid dramatic scenery What I saw of it was really good. I presume that is to make the movie understandable to those that didn't serve in the CG. Loyalty | The Finest Hours
