Timo Cruz is one of the boys who plays on the basketball team Coach Carter coaches.

The basketball team is called Richmond Oilers.

At the start of the film he is the ring leader of the basketball team. His uncle is not a father figure due to the fact he is a very well known gang leader within the neighbourhood, so until Coach Carter comes into Timo’s life there was no strong structured father figure leading him, instead he followed in the footsteps of his Uncle.
However, only one other person follows Timo’s footsteps by choosing to leave the basketball team because of the new rules Coach Carter has put in place.
